Owen is referred to as the Prince of the Puritans. Yet how many of his admirers today will agree with him on this important point? Not many."Mutual watchfulness over one another by persons in any society is a prime dictate of the law of our creation which was first rejected by this first murderer, " Owen writes. The passage in view from Hebrews demonstrates that all believers are responsible for oversight in the church - not just elders or pastors. This fact is not commonly known. Much less practiced.Failure to care for others put us on the level as Cain, the first murderer, according to this author.Another post regarding this urgent matter is found on our sister site for those interested

A fascinating volume. By a bold pioneer. By a real Christian scholar.George Bush (June 12, 1796 – September 19, 1859) Was a relative of 2 USA Presidents who bore his name.Born in Vermont, Bush graduated from Dartmouth in 1818 and then studied theology at Princeton, where he was a tutor 1823–1824. He spent four years as a Christian missionary in Indiana, and in 1831 became professor of Hebrew and Oriental Literature at New York University. The section here, page 57ff, on the imaginary subject of "the office of deacon" is especially enlightening and long overdue.Enjoy this free book!

John Milton was not a man of inferior learning - unlike many who write Christian books in the modern era. His place in literature is right up there with William Shakespeare. He is considered by many to be the greatest English poet.He was well read in his own day. No doubt he lost a few friends over these words... as also over his Considerations Touching the Likeliest Means to Remove Hirelings Out of the Church, 1659.I can see why he was not invited by the Long Parliament to join other Puritans at the Westminster Assembly. Church & State relations then meant that, throughout the British Empire, the general public would be taxed in order to pay the clergy. An idea which he found intolerabl

A new approach to missions is here brought into view. And it's a sad reminder of what happens when we do the same things, expecting a different result. This timely essay pertains particularly to Chinese churches but should apply universaly. Interestingly, once the Western missionaries were forced out of China - the church grew much faster.A. H. Jowett Murray, M.A., refers to Arthur Hugh Jowett Murray, a British missionary and the son of Sir James Murray, the primary editor of the Oxford English Dictionary.

An excellent essay - one never refuted - by an excellent scholar. It represents a needed shift in church structure. Churches need a team of pastors rather than one.Though a Presbyterian source, many other denominations have muted "ruling elders" as well. That aside, the scriptures require that every elder must be "apt to teach". 1 Timothy 3:2.

Allen challenged the missionary methods of his day. And wrote from his extensive experiences and travels. Considered to be a classic work on this subject. First appeared in 1927.

This is a must-read book. Ignorance concerning this matter is quite prevalent and the negative effects are vast.A needed study of the most quoted passage in Scripture, by Scripture itself. Trust me, your hopes for this earth and the Kingdom of God will be elevated. In this world - Jesus and his gospel shall surely prevail. Never doubt it.The author - is he competent to write such a book? Yes indeed, he is one of a few scholars who has compiled a complete concordance of the New Testament.

Conversion of the world... now that's a phrase seldom heard. Much less seen on the cover of a book. Our purpose is twofold. First, to encourage every Christian to involve themselves in sharing the good news with others. And secondly, to promote the the hope of promised victory regarding the future of God's Kingdom on the earth.I posted this book in the category 'call and ordination' because neither is actually needed for this great work of leading others to the Living Water.
